A lot of former dancers go on into acting. In Brugel's case it was the nudge of the drama instructor at her high school that encouraged her to go in that direction. One of her teachers suggested she take part in an audition for the annual school production. It was her choice to take on the principal character of Anne of Green Gables after she had a go at. This led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and earned a Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in 2000. For the last twenty years, Brugel's work been seen on both the large and small screen. She gained the most fame when she was offered the character of Rita on the award-winning TV series The Handmaid's Tale.
